Cryocapacitation and Fertility of Cryopreserved Semen
Cryopreservation of semen is the most widely applied reproductive biotechnological tool used for rapid genetic improvement of livestock through artificial insemination, but the process of cryopreservation and thawing inflicts certain damage to spermatozoa plasma membrane and acrosome. This damage includes swelling and breakage of plasma membrane, loss of membrane selective permeability, change ...
متن کاملSperm Characteristics in Cryopreserved Buffalo Bull Semen and Field Fertility
Semen quality and its relationship to fertility are major concern in animal production. The aim of this study was to assess the relationship between frozen thawed sperm characteristics and fertility following in vivo fertility through Artificial Insemination(AI). Semen samples were collected from four buffalo bulls. Semen volume and sperm concentration appeared to be significantly different (P0...
متن کاملThe causes of reduced fertility with cryopreserved semen.
Cryopreserved mammalian semen is generally acknowledged to have an impaired fertility by comparison with fresh semen. The reduction arises from both a lower viability post-thaw and sublethal dysfunction in a proportion of the surviving subpopulation. The reasons for the loss of fertility are various. In this paper, factors affecting the proportion of survivors (e.g., cold shock susceptibility, ...

متن کاملCytomegalovirus detection in cryopreserved semen samples collected for therapeutic donor insemination.
The presence of cytomegalovirus (CMV) in semen was retrospectively evaluated in 178 cryopreserved semen samples obtained from 97 donors recruited by two sperm banks. Thirty-three (34.0%) donors were CMV-seronegative, 51 (52.6%) were CMV-seropositive and 13 (13.4%) had an unknown serological status. CMV was detected in sperm specimens by cell culture and polymerase chain reaction (PCR). CMV was ...
